Sauram – surya

Sauram is worship of Surya Bhagwan- Pratyaksha Deivam – the God who can be seen. “Asavadityo Brahma” – Surya is a visible Brahman proclaims the Vedas. Without Him, we can’t see. Without Him, there will be no day and night.

The Vedas emphasize on Nature worship, specifically Surya Bhagwan as the Super Power. Rig Veda includes the Saura Sukta; whereas Yajur, Sama & Atharava Veda also consist a lot of portion about Surya. Purusha Suktam refers to the Sun as the eye of the Cosmic body of God. “ Adityo Jyotiradithyah” – in Vishnu Sahasranamam connotes that Bhagwan has manifested in the form of Surya Mandalam. In the Gita, Krishna says “jyotishaam ravir-amshumaan” – Among the luminaries, I am the Sun. “ Yadaadityagatam tejo jagad bhaasayate’khilam; Yacchandramasi yacchaagnau tattejo viddhi maamakam” – That light which residing in the sun, illuminates the whole world, that which is in the moon and in the fire – know that light to be Mine.

Suryan is the cause and effect of this Universe – scientists say earth is born of eruption of volcanoes bringing out liquefied Agni & its solidification into earth shows that. Sun God is seated in a chariot with seven horses. These seven horses represent the basic seven VIGBYOR colours that are seen in a rainbow or when the sun rays are passed through a prism. His consort is te shadow, Chayadevi.

Man has been initiated to connect mentally with God in the form of Surya Mandalam and invokes the conscious principle, which bestows upon him unseen powers or siddhis by japa and dyana of Sun God. Worship of Sun God rids us of sins and dispels the darkness of ignorance from our minds.

Sage Agastya taught Rama (who belonged to Surya Vamsham) Aditya Hridayam in praise of Sun God. Krishna says in the Gita, that He has taught the eternal Jnana to Surya Bhagwan who has in turn imparted it to his son, Manu & that is how it passed through generations.

Sun is an integral part of life. “Atma Chaitanyam aasritya Dehendriya Manodhiyah Swakriyardheshu Vartante Suryalokam Yatha Janaah”. As men do their own work in the light of sun, the body, organs, Manas and Buddhi do their own work in Atma Chaitanya or consciousness.

Surya Namaskaram is performed at the temple every Sunday. In addition, Suryanamaskaram is also performed during the 41 days of Mandala Varam at the temple. It does good for our mind and body.
