KRITHIKA MANDALAVARA VEDAPARAYANAM

।। वेदो नित्यं अधीयतां तदुदितं कर्म स्वनुष्ठीयताम् ।।
Adi Sankara

Significance of Veda Parayanam: (Vedic Recitation)

The strength of any religion depends on the spirituality, character and integrity of religious teachers and of their followers.

Vyasa Bhagawan is known as Veda Vyasa. At the end of Dvapara Yuga and before the commencement of Kali Yuga, Bhagawan Vyasa classified the Vedas into four. He thought that in the Yuga that is to commence, the life-span of people will be short, their memory power will be weak, the super-natural power of Yoga will decrease and something should be done in order to save the Vedas from utter destruction.

Vedas are eternal, i.e. has neither a beginning nor end. At the beginning of each creation, the eternal sounds, the Vedas are received by yogic personages (Rishis) and conveyed to the world. To all of us, followers of the Sanatana Dharma, our common allegiance is to the Vedas.

Preservation of the Vedas will ensure well being of the entire world. If it is not possible for all to devote themselves to this important task, it behoves us to encourage Vedic Scholars in preservation and sustenance of the Vedic culture for posterity. Only then can one claim to be a true follower of the Vedic religion.

MANDALAVARA SURYANAMASKARAM

IMPORTANCE & SIGNIFICANCE

1) Our mythological texts say that a healthy body is indeed necessary to perform one’s dharmic duties – शरीर आद्य खलु धर्मसाधनम् ।

2) Another Smruti sloka says – आरोग्यं भास्करात् इच्छेत् । One should aspire for good health through the grace of sun-god. Here Suryanamaskaram is implied by grace.

3) Yoga of Patanjali extols the practice of performing Suryanamaskar regularly. gives good health but also mental peace and good memory power which is very vital for meditation.

4) Vedas proclaim सूर्य आत्मा जगतः तस्थुषश्च। “The Sun is the soul of all that moves and of all that is stationary.” (does not move) e.g. Trees and Mountains.

5) In conclusion, Suryanamaskar bestows sound health, longevity, intelligence, peace of mind, good memory power, unimpaired eyesight and happliness for a decent Surrival in this mundane world.

6) Aruna Prasnam begins describing various forms of Sun “आरोगो भ्राज पटर पतङ्ग”. Aaroga, Bhraja, Patara, Partanga, Svarnara, Jyotishiman and Vibhasa as the seven forms. Then this concept is developed as द्वादश आदित्यः and they are मित्र, रवि, सूर्य, भानु, खग, पूष, हिरण्यगर्भ, मरीचि, आदित्य, सवितृ, अर्क एंव भास्करः

7) Arunam describes Sun as the ultimate source of energy that nourish this universe with rain and fertile growth of food which in turn bestows human beings with strength, intellect, ideas, memory and knowledge. This lead us to realise the ultimate Brahman. In another mantra, Sun God is described as brilliance and that which powers पञ्चभूतः, and our faculties पञ्च इन्द्रियाः and bestow us with मेधा power to assimilate.
